New Haven
After some 550km of driving (add some 50km for NYC) we called it a day in New Haven, Connecticut. New Haven - what a promising name and what a great disappointment. Some careful city and state planners cut off the town from the beautiful bay of Long Island Sound by placing I-95 East and a long line of oil storage tanks right in between. What a mess. So I took off for a run through the campus of Yale University. Coming over from Cornell in Ithaca NY the contrast couldn't have been greater. The founders of New Haven tried hard with some churches dating back to 1640. Later the scene became overwhelmed by some ugly and tall structures right in heart of this once beautiful town. I followed the music I heard and was drawn to a - now give me a break - Pizza Fest right on the doorsteps of mighty Yale University. Well - I guess we better move on.
